ChatGPT Plus free trial
Plus is $20 per month. OpenAI does not advertise a general free trial. Eligible U.S. students can get four free months, then $20.
The price, and the trial question
ChatGPT Plus free trial is the search. OpenAI's help article 'What is ChatGPT Plus?' says the plan is $20 per month, billed monthly, on the website and supported apps. That article does not offer a general free trial. The free plan is the way to try ChatGPT without paying. Plus is the paid upgrade.
The Plus plan page describes more capacity than Free, including GPT-5 class models, more messages and uploads, and higher image limits. Model names move. The model picker in your account is the list that applies today. A Go plan also exists. Its price is on chatgpt.com/pricing, and this page will not guess it.

Where a free stretch actually exists
The 2026 Back to School offer gives eligible students four free monthly billing periods of Plus. That is not a trial you can claim by clicking Upgrade. It requires SheerID enrollment checks and a claim by 31 October 2026. Details are on the students page. After the four months, the help page says the plan renews at $20 unless you cancel.
If you subscribed through the Apple App Store or Google Play, the student offer help page says those subscriptions are not supported for the promotion. Cancel and manage them in the store that billed you. The web path is described on cancel ChatGPT.
