ChatGPT for students
Eligible U.S. college and graduate students can claim four free months of Plus by 31 October 2026. A payment method is required. It renews at $20.
The 2026 offer in one place
ChatGPT students, ChatGPT student, and ChatGPT Plus for students point at the same promotion. OpenAI's student page calls it four months of ChatGPT Plus, an $80 value, for eligible U.S. college students, claim by 31 October. The help article says that is four free monthly billing periods, including ChatGPT Work and other Plus features.
Eligibility is current full-time or part-time college and graduate students at eligible U.S. degree-granting institutions. SheerID decides whether the school and the enrollment qualify. You do not have to use a school email on the ChatGPT account. Verify while signed into the account that should receive the months.
Payment, renewal, and who is left out
A valid payment method is required to start. OpenAI says you are not charged during the four free months. After that, the subscription renews at $20 per month unless you cancel. Existing Plus subscribers billed directly by ChatGPT can apply the offer if they qualify. Subscriptions billed by the App Store or Google Play are not supported.
You can redeem once. If you cancel during the promotion, Plus continues through the current monthly period, and the help article says the remaining free months are forfeited when the cancellation takes effect. There is a separate page for the phrase student discount, which this offer is not: it is a limited free stretch, not a permanent lower price.
