ChatGPT Chrome extension
Install the extension from a listing whose publisher you recognize, then sign in. The installed page is a confirmation, not a second product.
What the extension is for
ChatGPT Chrome extension searches want the browser add-on tied to ChatGPT, especially ChatGPT Work. OpenAI's confirmation URL is chatgpt.com/work/extension/installed. That page means the browser finished adding the extension. It does not, by itself, prove you picked the official listing. In the Chrome Web Store, read the publisher before you click Add.
A lookalike extension can ask for broad site access. If the listing is not clearly OpenAI's, skip it. This manual does not host the extension file and will not ask you to load an unpacked zip from a stranger.
After it is installed
Sign in with the ChatGPT account that has the plan you mean to use. Work features follow that plan and, on a team, the admin's allow list. If the icon does nothing, disable other ChatGPT-named extensions so only one is active.
The extension is not required for the website. Translation, writing, and images on chatgpt.com work in the tab without it.

- The add-on is how you reach ChatGPT in the browser. What you can do still depends on the ChatGPT plan you sign into.
- Why do I see an installed page and no sidebar?
- The installed page only confirms the browser step. Pin the extension, sign in, and check that another extension is not blocking it.
- Does it work in Edge or only Chrome?
- OpenAI's URL is written for the Chrome extension path. Edge can install Chrome Web Store extensions on many setups. Use the store listing's own browser note rather than assuming parity.
